Bubble
Paddle Reservoir mixing systems (US Patent
#6,461,034 European and other patents pending) provide a very simple and inexpensive way of
keeping resins, assay beads,
SPA beads, glass beads and cells in suspension while they are being
pipetted to microplate wells. The Bubble Paddle design also
ensures a homogeneous suspension in all quadrants of the reservoir to
ensure reproducible results are obtained. Because
reagents are very expensive it is also important to do this with the
smallest dead volume possible. The bottom of the Bubble
Paddle reservoirs are designed to minimize dead volume. Whether you are
using a 4 tip, an 8 tip, a 96 tip or 384 tip pipetting head, we have a
mixing reservoir for you. These Bubble Paddle Reservoirs are
powered by our Alligator Tumble
stirrers.

Magnetic
Clutch Bubble Paddle Reservoirs are powered by thier own motor via a
magnetic clutch. They have the unique ability to stir suspensions
even as the pipet tips remove the cells or beads from the bottom of the
reservoir. This, coupled with the very small dead volume in the
bottom of the reservoir, makes this system uniquely suited to
resuspending particulate specimens during the pipetting
operation. The magnetic clutch and motor are very powerful as
they will stir solutions as viscous as honey at 4 degrees C.
To
the left you can view 2 clips of the clutch drive bubble paddle.

In order to stir magnetic beads
you can not use any method that employs magnetism, magnetic
drives or magnetic clutches because the beads will be
attracted to them and taken out of solution. As
magnetic beads have become more popular in a variety of
assays, a non-magnetic method to keep them uniformly
suspended is required. The VP
767-1 and VP 758-1 with its' sealed drive shaft
eliminates the need for magnetic clutches or drive magnets.
Problem solved! The pipet depressions on the bottom of the
reservoir also reduces the waste of these precious reagents.

As the trend towards assay miniaturization
continues with increasing demands to make nanoliter transfers, here is
a simple way to convert either a 96 or a 384 Well Pipetting System or
plate handler into a pin tool work station that will deliver from 2 nl
to 5 ul using 96, 384 or 1,536 pin tools. We have developed
2 basic floating pin tool styles (E-clip and Tube type) and now can
mount them to a variety of robot pipetting systems and microplate
handling systems. Our
standard mounting
plates allow all our pin tools to be easily attached to over 34 other
Robot pipetting systems or to microplate handling systems.

Instead
of spinning a magnetic stir bar about the horizontal plane like the
typical magnetic flask stirrer, the Alligator Tumble Stirrer causes
stir
elements of all sizes and shapes to tumble
vertically end-over-end inside each well, like an alligator
"tumbles" its prey. The Alligator Tumble Stirrer will
stir all types of microplates (24, 48, 96, 384 and even 1536
wells). It will
also stir V and U bottom microplates, PCR plates,
micro-centrifuge tubes and test tubes, bottles and special designed
troughs
and reservoirs. The ability to also
stir in troughs and reservoirs is
useful when pipetting cells, beads or particulates into microplates as
it is
essential to have them resuspended evenly.

The VP

removal systems that has a built in Cross Contamination Control
Blotting Paper with flaps and flexible tabs (VP 540C-24) .
The flexible tabs bend when a stir element strikes the flap and allows
the stir element to pass through the Blotting Paper and impact on an
absorbent pad below the magnet. The tab then returns the flap to
it's normal horizontal position and any liquid that may be sprayed
about is prevented from entering adjacent tubes or wells.

mixing honey (viscosity - 10,000 to 15,000 centistokes) and dye.
The disc
design of the VP 779 series makes them significantly more
efficient at moving liquid and thereby mixing solution in the
tumble mode. Selecting a disc that is slightly smaller than the
inside diameter of the vessel to be stirred results in the most
efficient stirring. To stir viscous material requires greater
energy so we constructed these disc from Samarium Cobalt and
encapsulated them with PTFE to make them inert.
The VP 779-5
(5 mm diameter) was designed to fit into 96 well
microplates and the VP 779-13 (13 mm diameter) was designed to
fit into many vials. If your application requires a different
diameter let us know.
