The
VP 706 Mega Stirrus was designed to meet those
demanding stirring applications where a large volume of
viscous material needs to be mixed. Previous lab
stirrers just didn't have large enough or strong enough
drive magnets get the job done. Our Mega Stirrus has a
uniquely focused 30 cm long massive NdFeB drive magnet that
creates a powerful attraction to stir bars in the vessel.
Even liquids as viscous as 90% honey are easily stirred
producing impressive vortex cones. See the
vortex cone in the photo on the right.
The
other part of our secret to stirring large vessels with
viscous material is our development of NdFeB stir bars.
The stir bars couple so strongly to the drive magnet that no
matter how thick or viscous the liquid is ... it will be
stirred. These were invented and developed by us for
stirring viscous material. We are the only source for
NdFeB Stir Bars. See the patent pending
technology behind these powerful stir bars at this
link.

The Mega Stirrus comes
in two models that are differentiated by the lowest speed
they can spin drive magnet. When you are stirring very
viscous material you must be able to stir at low speeds to
maintain the coupling of the drive magnet with the Stirring
element.
The VP 706-1 is
powered by a rugged 3/8 horse power AC inverter duty motor
and operates at speeds from 30 to 300 RPM.
The VP 706-2 is
powered by a brushless 90 watt flat motor (1/9 horse power)
and operates at speeds from 100 to 450 RPM. |

The VP 706B-4H is a combination Heat Plate and
Horizontal Magnetic Stirrer.
It is powered by a powerful (150 mNm) motor with a speed
range of 100 to 2000 RPM. The Aluminum Heat Plate has a
temperature control range of ambient to 140C in
1 degree centigrade
increments. The drive magnet in the Stirrer is made from
heat stable (to 150C) 42 MGO NdFeB. This strong drive
magnet will couple very strongly with stir bars and stir
elements made from any fero magnetic material from Steel to
Alnico, SmCo, and NdFeB the
strongest of all magnetic materials. V&P is the only
company to offer NeFeB stir elements and bars. The faster
you want to spin and the more viscous your material, the
stronger the magnet stir element or bar needs to be.
Please visit our stir element pages for the appropriate stir
element/bar for your vessel or application.
The VP 706B-4H can accommodate heating and stirring in many
different vessels.
Even stirring in a graduated cylinder is no problem for the
VP 706B-4H because of the high speeds we can stir with.
Note that the vortex goes all the way to the top of the
cylinder.

The VP 706B-5 is a Vortex Magnetic Lateral Tumble Stirrer that is designed to run at
very high speeds (up to 5,000 RPM) using a powerful 48 MGO NdFeB drive magnet.
The top plate is designed to accommodate and securely locate 12 cryovials very
close to the drive magnet for maximum magnetic coupling. This Vortex Magnetic Lateral Tumble Stirrer is covered under USA Patent #7,484,880, European Union Patent #1,736,235 and German Patent #60 2006 026 122.5). Instead of tumbling a stir element in the vertical plane like our Alligator Tumble Stirrer, the Vortex Tumble Stirrer spins the stir elements by tumbling them laterally against a side wall of the vessel. This spinning motion produces a vortex cone in the liquid and efficiently mixes the contents of the liquid.
When specimens are added to stainless steel stir discs and glass beads in the vials they are
disrupted and the DNA released.
The VP 706B-5 is powered by a powerful (150 mNm) DC motor and a 110 volt
AC control, with a speed range of 100 to 5,000 RPM.
The powerful drive magnet will couple very strongly with stir bars and stir
elements made from any magnetic material from Steel to Alnico, SmCo, and NdFeB

More than 40 percent of drugs coming from high-throughput
screening are not soluble in water. The problem is
compounded further when the drug is also not soluble in
organic media. The issue associated with these drugs is too
low bioavailability and or low absorption1,2.
One drug formulation approach to solving this problem is
making the drug into nanosuspensions or nanoparticles. This
method requires engineering the drug compound molecules down
to the nanoscale (10-9 meter). At this scale,
the problems associated with solubility and bioavailability
are resolved3.
Currently, there are two predominant “Top Down Technologies”
methods for nanoparticle synthesis, which involve the
disintegration of the compounds: media milling and
homogenization4.
Nanosuspensions processed via media mills are prepared by
filling the mill chambers with milling media, water, the
drug, and stabilizer (usually a surfactant), and rotated at
a very high rate to shear the drug. The milling media
usually composed of glass beads, zirconium oxide, or pearls
which impact with the drug particulates, resulting in
nanosized particles.
Nanosuspensions prepared via homogenization uses an
instrument utilizing high pressure to break down the
particles. The drug is forced from a 3 cm diameter cylinder
into a 25 μm diameter cylinder at pressures between 2,800 to
21,300 PSI, causing the drug compound to break into
nanoparticles. However, this method requires that the drug
compound be in the micron scale before processing.
The VP 706-7 was designed to take insoluble compounds and
make them into nanosupensions or nanoparticles by mixing the
drug compound with glass beads using a combination of
powerful magnetic stir elements and drive magnets. The VP
706-7 is capable of spinning up to 2,500 RPM with great
magnetic attraction, and can be used for complete attrition
of the drug compound down to the nanoscale or for
preparation before being processed through a high-pressure
homogenizer. |

The VP 706-7 works well with any graduated
cylinder.
