The fixtures
for Tube Style Pins consist of a top float plate
that will accommodate all 1.58 mm diameter tubes, a bottom float plate that
will accommodate either a .229 mm, .457 mm or .787 mm diameter pin and 6 standoffs
that keep the two plates separate. The length of the standoffs is
determined by the length of the pin used. These fixtures are capable
of being connected
to over 34 different robotic workstations by a variety of
robot mounting plates that we provide.
Simply select the Pin
Tool Fixture, the Pin, the Robot Mounting
Plate and you are ready to order. If you have more specific needs call

New
- all Pin Tool Fixtures sold after 8-8-2006 will be protected
with our new Ni Lube corrosion resistant coating. NiLube is a unique composite coating that
blends the hardness and corrosion resistance of
Nickel-Phosphorus with the low friction coefficient of
Teflon. Submicron particles of Teflon are co-deposited with
an electroless Nickel-Phosphorus alloy to provide various
unique characteristics. We have
changed from conventional anodizing of the float plates
because of corrosion effects of acid solutions on the
anodized plates. The new Ni Lube plates are gray in
color and can be easily distinguished from the black
anodized plates. Although many of photos on the web
site are of anodized (black) fixtures all future sales of
Pin Tool Fixtures will be plates with the new (gray) Ni Lube
finish.

The Robot E-Clip Type Fixtures
consist of a top float plate that will accommodate a
1.58 mm diameter
FP or
FP6 series E-Clip pins and a bottom float plate that
will also accommodate the same pins. It also has six 3.175 mm standoffs
that keep the two plates separate. The double float plate design
is ideal for robotic applications as it reduces the weight of the pin tool
over the single manual float plate design. We recently have added a
single float plate for the larger 3.18 mm diameter
FP13 pin and one for the
larger 4.77 mm diameter
FP11
pin. Customers
who want to inoculate larger volumes of yeast on to agar plates favor the
FP13 or FP 11 pins.
These fixtures are capable
of being connected
to over 34 different robotic workstations by a variety of
robot mounting plates that we provide.
Simply select the Floating Frame Fixture, the Pin, the Robot Mounting
Plate and you are ready to order. If you have more specific needs call

The main reason for this conversion is to attach guide pins
to the Robot Pin Tool (a.k.a. “Replicator”) so it can be
manually aligned to microplate registration accessories such
as the VP 381 series Library Copiers for replicating and
reformatting genomic libraries, VP 380 series Colony Copiers
to make high density arrays on agar surfaces or the VP 382
series Multi-Prints to make high density arrays on nylon or
other membranes.
Guide Pins are added to
Robot Pin Tools by the addition of a Basic Guide Pin Plate
or BGP to the Pin Tool Fixture. The Robot Mounting
Plate is removed and a Manual Mounting Plate with Handle is
attached to the top of the Fixture.
Three Guide Pin Kits are available. The Kit selection
depends on the length of pins in the Pin Tool Fixture.
The BGPK Kit is
added to Tube-Style Floating Pin Tools (17mm exposed pin
length only). The BGPKE Kit is added to E-Clip Style
Floating Pin Tools (~22mm exposed pin length. The
BGPKL kit is added to
deep-well, E-Clip-Style Floating Pin Tools, which can hold a
variety of longer pins, such as the
FPAM pins which are 63 mm long. A pin tool with
FPAM pins is illustrated in the photo to the right. In
order to accommodate these longer pins we need to use a
longer and sturdier guide pin found on the BGPL
frame. These larger guide pins are 3.17 mm in diameter.
Each of the kits on the
right (BGPKL and BGPK) is made up of a handle,
a manual mounting plate and a guide pin frame. The guide
pin frame is the only difference between the kits. (The
BGPKE kit is not shown, but looks nearly identical to
the BGPK Kit)
